Downtown Raleigh is getting an ice skating rink this winter, and we’ve got details

Red Hat Amphitheater will transform into an ice skating rink this season, giving skaters a view of the Raleigh skyline.

The outdoor venue at 500 S. McDowell St. will be known as “The Rink,” getting a holiday makeover starting this Saturday, Nov. 20, and will remain open until Jan. 1.

The Rink opens the same day as the Raleigh Christmas Parade, which also will be downtown beginning at 9:30 a.m.

The Rink, presented by UNC Health, will be open Thursday to Sunday from Nov. 20 to Dec. 20, and will expand to daily hours Dec. 21 through Jan. 1.

Online tickets are now on sale. Tickets start at $11, including skate rental and $6 for non-skaters. There are discounts for groups of 10 or more with some corporate group packages including food and beverage.

Tickets are available at the box office of the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts box office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., online at ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-982-2787.

Tickets will be available at the Red Hat Amphitheater box office 30 minutes before opening time each day.

“We’re thrilled to bring some festive holiday spirit to downtown Raleigh this year,” said Kerry Painter, director and general manager of the Raleigh Convention and Performing Arts Complex, in a news release. “This is the perfect opportunity to start a new holiday tradition as Red Hat Amphitheater is transformed into a dazzling winter wonderland.”
