Miss some of this year’s Oscar-nominated films? How to stream them before awards

The 94th Academy Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday, March 27 (airing at 8 p.m. on ABC).

The annual Oscars awards show will honor the best films released between March 1 and December 31, 2021. That’s a long time — so it’s likely you missed seeing some of the nominated films when they were first released.

Thankfully, most of the films are available to stream, which means you still have time to catch up before Sunday evening.

Here’s how to stream some of the Oscar-nominated films from this year.

‘CODA’

Summary: “CODA” (the term used for Child of Deaf Adults) follows the story of Ruby, the only hearing person in her family. When her family’s fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her fear of abandoning her parents.

Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Troy Kotsur) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

‘West Side Story’

Summary: North Carolina’s own Ariana DeBose stars in this second feature-length screen adaptation of the 1957 stage musical of the same name. “West Side Story” explores the forbidden love between Maria and Tony, along with the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds.

Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (DeBose), Production Design, Costume Design, Cinematography and Sound.

‘Encanto’

Summary: “Encanto” is an animated Disney movie about the Madrigals, an extraordinary family that lives in a magical house hidden in the mountains of Colombia. Every child in the family has been blessed with a unique gift, except young Maribel. “But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hop,” IMDb says.

‘Being the Ricardos’

Summary: “Being the Ricardos” is a dramatized biographical look at the relationship between Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. The film “follows Lucy and Desi as they face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage,” IMDb says.

’The Eyes of Tammy Faye’

Summary: Filmed in and around Charlotte, North Carolina, “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” provides an “intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall, and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker” as she and her husband, Jim Bakker, rise “from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park,” IMDb says. While the couple were “revered for their message of love, acceptance, and prosperity,” it wasn’t long before their “carefully constructed empire” came crashing down.

‘Nightmare Alley’

Summary: Directed by Guillermo del Toro, “Nightmare Alley” follows a “grifter working his way up from low-ranking carnival worker to lauded psychic medium” who “matches wits with a psychiatrist bent on exposing him,” IMDb says.

‘Don’t Look Up’

Summary: Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and more, “Don’t Look Up” is a satirical allegory about the world’s attitude towards climate change. After an astronomy graduate student and her professor discover a comet that’s on a direct collision course with Earth, they have a shockingly comical and difficult time getting anyone, including the fictional President of the United States, to care.
