For one show only, the Carolina Ballet’s presentation of “The Nutcracker” can be seen for free.

The Carolina Ballet announced that a show Tuesday, Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. will be a free community performance. It will be held at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, which is at 2 E. South St., in downtown Raleigh.

There will be 1,600 tickets available Tuesday at 10 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will be distributed at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium box office until they run out or until the show begins at 2 p.m.

All seats will be assigned, not general admission. There is no limit to the number of tickets people can obtain.

“The Nutcracker,” a holiday classic, features Tchaikovsky’s score performed by a live symphony orchestra. The Carolina Ballet performance also stars 100 local children.

The production started Dec. 10, and shows will continue through Saturday, Dec. 24, at Raleigh Memorial Auditorium.
