Willie Nelson took the stage in Raleigh Friday night wearing a “Maui” t-shirt as a tribute to his neighbors on the fire-ravaged island. With a giant U.S. flag projected on the screen behind him, the 90-year-old music legend took a seat, leaned back, took a deep somewhat labored breath and launched into his hit “Whiskey River.” The crowd was his.
