  • Ted Lasso Season 4 begins filming in Kansas City, including neighborhoods in Blue Springs.
  • Production teams issued letters to residents and secured road closures for filming.
  • Casting calls for Kansas City scenes hint at restaurant, airport, and police settings.

Blue Springs homeowners recently received letters about a TV show being filmed in their neighborhood later this month.

More than likely, they will recognize the star of the show, homegrown celebrity and Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis.

“Ted’s coaching a women’s team,” Sudeikis told Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce on their New Heights podcast in March, when he announced that Season 4 of the Emmy-winning show was happening.

“Is he coming back to the States?” Travis, the Chiefs tight end, asked.

“That’s too many questions,” Sudeikis said.

We know at least some of the show will be filmed in Kansas City. Production has begun and portions will be filmed in various locations around the metro, including Blue Springs.

A Blue Springs spokesman confirmed the letters, which are from a company called KC Locations, were about the “Ted Lasso” show. The “Ted Lasso” production received a special use permit for road closure.

“That’s kind of as far as our, I guess, relationship, if there is one, is going with this filming,” the spokesman said.

He added: “We are excited that the ‘Ted Lasso’ show is going to be here, and, like I said, puts Blue Springs on a global stage that we otherwise wouldn’t have had if it wasn’t for that show.”

Though a lot of secrecy surrounds the show’s plans for now, the cat was let out of the proverbial bag when a local casting company put out a call for stand-ins and extras for scenes in Kansas City. Those scenes involve a restaurant, a flag football team, the airport, a museum, a soccer team and police officers.

Blue Springs resident Ty Jason Bamesberger, who received one of the letters to neighbors, said he lives in the Chapman Farms neighborhood — so that could be a location for filming part of “Ted Lasso.”

When asked if he was excited about “Ted Lasso” being filmed in Blue Springs, Bamesberger wrote: “Yes! Not a common occurrence around here.”

Another Facebook user who lives near Northeast Scruggs Road and Northeast Blackwell Road had received a letter about filming taking place nearby.

Thanks to non-disclosure agreements — standard for any project like this — local officials and those involved with the filming are tight-lipped.

A Kansas City location scout whose name appears on the letter sent to neighbors told The Star he couldn’t say anything about the filming.

Likewise, the Kansas City Mayor’s office last week wouldn’t confirm that the show would be filming here.

“While we’re always excited about film and television projects that might choose Kansas City, we’re not able to confirm specific details about upcoming productions at this time,” Megan Strickland, a spokeswoman for Mayor Quinton Lucas, told The Star in a statement.

“We understand the enthusiasm around this possibility and we’d certainly share any information we’re able to when appropriate.”

But Blue Springs isn’t likely to be the only location to host film crews.

Asked whether “Ted Lasso” would be filming in Lee’s Summit, spokeswoman Cheryl Nash told The Star Thursday in an email: “We have a special event permit application. It has not been approved yet by the city.”
