A couple of Carolina country stars are giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at their music collab on social media.
This week, Darius Rucker of Hootie & the Blowfish posted a selfie with his bandmates and North Carolina’s Scotty McCreery, saying they were filming a music video for their song, “Bottle Rockets.”
The song is part of McCreery’s new EP, “Scooter & Friends,” a collection of songs also featuring vocals from Lee Brice and Charlie Wilson.
According to a recent interview with Billboard, the idea for “Bottle Rockets” — which samples one of the band’s ‘90s hits — came to be while McCreery was at a writing retreat in the North Carolina mountains.
“We started strumming the tune that would eventually become ‘Bottle Rockets,’ and at the end of the makeshift chorus we had at that point, Frank [Rogers, his producer] went into ‘Hold My Hand.’ It fit like a glove,” McCreery told Billboard.
“Everyone was laughing and high-fiving because we knew we were on to something. The song really just spilled out from there.”
Since its release in May, the song has quickly become a fan-favorite hit — and is currently among Billboard Hot 100 for the seventh week in a row.
A special surprise from Scotty
Along with the star’s selfie posted on social media, McCreery also posted a video of a special surprise he had for the South Carolina-based band on “Hootie & the Blowfish Day” — a bright blue cake iced with a cartoon blowfish.
