NC’s own James Taylor performs his greatest hits at Raleigh concert

The first few notes of “Carolina in My Mind” are instantly recognizable, transporting James Taylor fans to the musician’s home of North Carolina.

Then again, the same can be said for “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Fire and Rain,” “Sweet Baby James” and any of Taylor’s hits that still resonate decades after they were first recorded.

The award-winning singer, who grew up in Chapel Hill before moving to pursue a musical career, brought those classics and more Thursday night to Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek. He performed alongside his All-Star Band with special guest Tiny Habits.

Taylor has won numerous Grammy Awards, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2015 and received Kennedy Center Honors in 2016. His most recent album, “American Standard,” was released in 2020, winning the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2021.
