This 'Days of Our Lives' Legend Debuted 43 Years Ago Today in 1983-And Daytime's Most Iconic Romance Was Born

On this day in 1984, Kristian Alfonso made her debut on the NBC soap opera Days Of Our Lives as Hope Williams, daughter of Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) and Addie Horton (Patricia Barry).

Alfonso was the fifth actress to portray the role of Hope, since the characters birth in 1974.

The character quickly became a fan favorite, largely due to her romance with Bo Brady (Peter Reckell), which evolved into one of the show's most iconic supercouples.

Alfonso remained on the soap opera until 1987, when Bo and Hope were written out with a "happily ever after," leaving Salem with their newborn son, Shawn Douglas Brady, named after both Bo and Hope's fathers.

In 1990, Reckell returned to the show full-time, and Alfonso briefly reprised her role for the fan-favorite ‘Cruise of Deception' storyline. The arc ended dramatically, with Hope presumed dead after being dropped into a vat of acid by villain Ernesto Toscano.

Alfonso returned again in 1994 in a twist-heavy storyline involving super villain Stefano DiMera (Jospeh Mascolo). Her character was discovered at Stefano's compound, Maison Blanche, in New Orleans, but appeared to be a woman named ‘Gina.' After multiple twist, it was ultimately revealed that ‘Gina' was, in fact, Hope Brady.

Alfonso remained a central figure on Days of Our Lives until her full-time exit in 2020. She later returned for the Peacock spinoff Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem, where she reunited with Reckell.

Alfonso's most recent appearance came in 2025, during a storyline in which Bo Brady battled sepsis and received a miracle cure, while Bo's brother and longtime character John Black (Drake Hogestyn) was permanently written out of the series, as the character was killed off, as a result of saving Bo.
