Should You Pull For Yaeno Muteki In Umamusume Pretty Derby?
Yaeno Muteki, Tracen Academy's fiercest warrior, finally arrives in Umamusume! Starting April 20 (UTC), she's featured on a spotlight scout banner alongside a rerun for SSR Twin Turbo and Ines Fujin support cards. Let's analyze Yaeno Muteki's skills, career, and meta viability for Trackblazer and beyond.
Yaeno Muteki Stats And Skills
Yaeno Muteki is a Pace Chaser and Late Surger for both Medium and Mile tracks. She possesses a 20% bonus on Power and 10% on Guts, which makes her training more comfortable when using Guts-focused decks. Her Trackblazer career is also straightforward, allowing her to run the Triple Tiara route out-of-the-box, or the Triple Crown route after using at least 10 Long sparks.
| Unique Skill | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
Peerless Dance of Flowering Flames | If the user passes another runner on the final corner or later, increase velocity with fiery fighting spirit when in the front part of the pack with 300m or less remaining. |
Yaeno Muteki's unique skill is similar to Oguri Cap's [Triumphant Pulse], but with an extra condition before activation. In order for the skill to trigger within the last 300m of the race, the runner must first overtake someone on the final corner.
This requirement is relevant when choosing whether to run her as a Pace Chaser or a Late Surger. Her running style will depend on meta factors such as whether the lobby is front or back-heavy; however, Medium and Mile races will often favor Fronts and Paces, making Pace Chaser a safer pick for Yaeno.
| Potential Skill | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
Fighting Spirit | When engaged in a challenge midpack mid-race, very slightly recover endurance and slightly increase velocity. (Medium) | |
It's On! | Increase velocity when passing another runner mid-race. | |
Corner Acceleration ○ | Slightly increase acceleration on a corner with masterful turning. | |
Unyielding | Increase ability to fight back when passed by another runner on the final corner. (Medium) |
Staying at Potential 3 is the most cost-effective option when upgrading Yaeno Muteki. While [Corner Acceleration ○] and [Unyielding] can be used as gambling acceleration skills, they are highly inconsistent and expensive to purchase.
| Innate Skill | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
Ramp Up | Slightly increase velocity when passing another runner mid-race. | |
Steadfast | Slightly increase ability to fight back when passed by another runner on the final corner. (Medium) | |
Pace Chaser Corners ○ | Slightly increase velocity on a corner. (Pace Chaser) |
| Event Skill | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
Standard Distance ○ | Moderately increase performance over standard distances (multiples of 400m). | |
Playtime's Over! | Slightly increase velocity when followed by another runner directly behind for a long time. | |
Ramp Up | Slightly increase velocity when passing another runner mid-race. | |
Homestretch Haste | Slightly increase velocity in the last spurt. |
Should You Pull Analysis
Yaeno Muteki
Strengths
- Strong stat bonuses for Guts decks
- Versatile aptitudes allow different strategies (Mile, Medium, Pace, Late)
- Reliable unique skill when trained properly
Weaknesses
- Requires premium cards to compete at the top level
- Lacks a built-in reliable acceleration skill
Yaeno Muteki possesses a strong kit but lacks the acceleration skills required to close out the race. These accel skills include [Nimble Navigator], [Head-On] for Pace, and [Slick Surge] for Late. However, if you're able to make a deck or a pair of legacies that can give these skills, the rest of her kit can often carry her to victory (plus a bit of luck). The combination of [It's On!] and [Playtime's Over] is effective at fighting for a good mid-race position, and her built-in [Pace Chaser Corners ○] is a highly consistent skill to always have.
Her biggest drawback is the high investment required to make her competitive at the highest level, despite her strong viability in Team Trials. This is potentially an issue for F2P trainers who might plan on making her win in Champions Meetings, since they often lack the premium cards that grant access to gold accel skills.
Rating
Yaeno Muteki - 2.5/5
F2P Value - Low (Skippable)
Yaeno Muteki is a decently strong Uma who just lacks more "oomph" in her kit. She would be a fantastic trainee if she had [Nimble Navigator] or [Head-On]; instead, two of her Potential skill slots are taken up by terrible acceleration skills. In contrast, her SSR Power card is often a better pull-it is used as a parent farming card due to the high level of hints it provides, and even goes up to max hint discounts at MLB.
