Though it might be new to most, this version premiered more than two decades ago at the 2004Cannes International Film Festival. A wider theatrical release was planned, but it never materialized. In December 2025, Tarantino finally revisited the project, releasing it in theaters before setting its streaming debut.

What took so long, you ask? Speaking on the podcast The Church of Tarantino, via MovieWeb, the helmer addressed the question head-on, saying, "Basically, I didn't want to do anything with it until I owned it. I own it now." He added, "The minute it becomes in your hand, it just means less."

Grossing nearly $8 million in its limited release, the unified cut hit paid video-on-demand platforms in February and is now poised to find an even wider audience on streaming.

At its core, Tarantino's creation follows a relentless and highly skilled mercenary - code name Black Mamba - who vows to eliminate the former squad that betrayed her and left her for dead. Starring Uma Thurman in an iconic yellow jumpsuit, the film blends revenge, stylized action, and martial arts to brilliant effect.

Vivica A. Fox as Copperhead, Lucy Liu as Cottonmouth, Michael Madsen as Sidewinder, Daryl Hannah as California Mountain Snake, and David Carradine as Bill the Snake Charmer round out the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad.

Over time, Kill Bill has become a fixture on best movie lists and IMDb's Top 250 Movies, often cited for its bold vision, genre fusion, and legendary female lead.

As Tarantino himself put it, "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is my favorite, Inglourious Basterds is my best. Kill Bill is the movie I was born to make."
