2018 Blockbuster Named 'Greatest' Marvel Film as Fans Await New Sequel

When the box office is in need of a pick-me-up, it's always a delight when superheroes enter the picture.

Later this year, December 18 to be exact, Avengers: Doomsday will hit theaters. Marvel's highly anticipated release is a direct sequel to Avengers: Endgame (2019) - which was a follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War (2018), as fans will recall.

Monday, April 27 marks eight years since Infinity War hit the mass and remains a fan-favorite. In an article published last week, Collider called the 19th film in the MCU the "greatest film" from the iconic universe, writing:

"Avengers: Infinity War is arguably one of those rare movies that felt like a true cinematic event, both in its scope and how it paid off a decade's worth of build-up. Its story is just as intense: the intergalactic tyrant Thanos (Josh Brolin) finally plans to collect the six Infinity Stones, which will allow him to wipe out half the universe. The Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and other heroes join forces to stop Thanos, grappling with questions of sacrifice along the way."

Speaking of Brolin, critics and audiences particularly favored Infinity War due to the Goonies actor's layered performance as a villain, among other perks. And let's not forget the data highlights: The 2018 blockbuster became one of the highest-grossing films of all time and climbed onto Disney+'s Top 10 list as well.

The following year came Endgame, and directors Joe Russo and Anthony Russo recently announced that the hit film would be re-released on Sept. 25 - and feature brand-new footage. They had previously revealed that Marvel's highest-grossing film of all time would be re-released in theaters ahead of Doomsday.

Although it hasn't been announced what the new footage will include, Joe Russo, 54, said at the recent Sands Film Festival that it's important that Endgame gets re-released. Disney also announced that both Endgame and Doomsday would be released with Infinity Vision, "a new benchmark for theatrical presentation." Find out more here.
