Val Kilmer's iconic ‘Top Gun' helmet up for auction

A fighter pilot helmet worn by "Iceman" in the original "Top Gun" is up for auction.

The prop carries significant emotional resonance for fans of the movie, evoking one of the most memorable rivalries in 1980s cinema.

It featured in the blockbuster 1986 action film as Val Kilmer's character locked horns with Tom Cruise's "Maverick" over who was the best pilot.

Kilmer made a poignant return in the 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick, and passed away in April 2025 at the age of 65.

New Jersey-based auctioneers Goldin have not released an estimate for the film prop, but Cruise's helmet sold for $312,500 at a 2020 sale, more than five times its pre-sale estimate.

The company's summer offerings also include a 1979 Kenner Star Wars Boba Fett figure.

An estimate for the rare collectible is under wraps, but a similar "Rocket Firing/J-Slot Prototype" action figure sold in 2024 for $1,243,750.

Ken Goldin, founder and CEO of Goldin, said: "Whether you're a collector of Americana, you grew up watching Star Wars, or you're an avid global soccer fan, Goldin is your go-to all summer long. This is truly Goldin's greatest summer ever – across sports, history, and entertainment. We're so excited to share it with you!"

Goldin's Vintage Star Wars Auction opens May 1, while Iceman's helmet is set to feature in the Spring Pop Culture Auction, scheduled to begin May 21.
