6 upcoming projects in the 'Star Wars' universe

Star Wars fans around the globe celebrated the franchise Monday on Star Wars Day.

Held each year on May the Fourth, a play on “May the force be with you,” the unofficial holiday honors the space opera saga created by George Lucas.

Star Wars first came to life in the 1977 film of the same name and has since inspired multiple sequels, TV series, video games and other media. Here’s a list of six upcoming projects in the franchise in recognition of Star Wars Day.

Movies:

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’

The new film directed and co-written by Jon Favreau opens in theaters May 22.

The Mandalorian and Grogu serves as a sequel to the Disney+ series The Mandalorian, with Pedro Pascal returning as his character, Din Djarin, aka the Mandalorian.

The movie follows the Mandalorian and his young apprentice Grogu, dubbed “Baby Yoda” by fans, as they take on a task for the fledgling New Republic.

Jeremy Allen White and Sigourney Weaver also star.

‘Starfighter’

The upcoming space opera is written by Jonathan Tropper (Banshee, Warrior) and directed by Stranger Things writer and executive producer Shawn Levy.

Ryan Gosling, who recently starred in the sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary, will play the lead role, with the cast to also include Matt Smith, Mia Goth and Amy Adams.

Starfighter is a standalone film set in “a period of time that we haven’t seen explored before,” Levy said in 2025. The movie opens in theaters May 28, 2027.

Television:

‘Ahsoka’ Season 2

The Disney+ series starring Rosario Dawson as the former Jedi apprentice Ahsoka Tano is expected to return for a second season in 2026.

Game of Thrones alum Rory McCann will replace late actor Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll in the new season, while Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith actor Hayden Christensen will again reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker.

Other cast members include Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ivanna Sakhno.

Video games

‘Star Wars: Galactic Racer’

The racing game from Fuse Games and Secret Mode will release Oct. 6 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Set in the New Republic era, players will try to make their mark in the Galactic League circuit by racing different vehicles, including landspeeders, speeder bikes and podracers.

Galactic Racer features multiple game modes, including a story-driven solo campaign and PvP.

‘Star Wars Eclipse’

The action-adventure RPG from Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games features a “multiple-character branching narrative” set in the High Republic era.

Players will encounter never-before-seen species and planets as they explore the world and make impactful choices that shape the story.

The game is described as being in “early development,” but does not have a release date.

‘Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic’

The single-player action RPG from Arcanaut Studios and Lucasfilm Games is described as a narrative-driven “spiritual successor” to the 2003 game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect trilogy game director Casey Hudson is leading the project, which will take players on “an epic interactive adventure across a galaxy on the brink of rebirth where every decision shapes your path towards light or darkness.”

Douglas Reilly, VP and GM of Lucasfilm Games, told StarWars.com in December that Fate will honor Knights by following “the same tradition of a deep, cinematic, choice-driven role-playing game.”

Fate of the Old Republic does not yet have a release date.

The Star Wars franchise originated with the Star Wars trilogy of films starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, which were released between 1977 and 1983.
