Why Oprah's Book Club Pick Matters

Oprah's Book Club selections are known for amplifying emotionally powerful, character-driven literary fiction. Winfrey has a long history of bringing ambitious novels to a global mainstream audience, including favorites The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates and She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb.

Oprah does not shy away from rich text or challenging storylines and often spotlights authors who explore marginalized or complex lived experiences. With John of John, she continues that tradition by highlighting literary fiction rooted in social and emotional realism and shaped by the author's perspective.

Simply put, Oprah is not looking to give her book club followers a light read. She aims to offer a book that challenges us to feel and think differently, and with John of John, she does just that.

Early Reactions to John of John

Stuart responded to being selected as Oprah's 123rd book club pick by sharing on social media, "So, so proud to be an Oprah's Book Club pick. Thank you @oprah."

Early readers were quick to offer their reactions as well, writing, "Great choice!!! I just read this and loved it so much. 5 stars!" Another added, "I felt this book in my bones. The writing is so lyrical and I could have lived inside it for hundreds of more pages."

What Readers Can Expect From John of John

Readers of John of John can expect a deeply emotional novel that explores what it means to return home and what it means to confront one's past in order to understand who we are becoming.
