Bette Midler Adds Another Iconic Role to Her Resume With Netflix's ‘Steps'

Bette Midler is adding another exciting project to her impressive résumé. The Hocus Pocusstar has been cast in Netflix's upcoming animated film, Steps, where she will lend her voice to the Fairy Godmother in a reimagined Cinderella story-a role she says she's "positively thrilled" to take on.

Midler shares, "The beloved Fairy Godmother, the wholesome Fairy Godmother, the one with all the good intentions, has been around for a long, long time. This particular version of the Fairy Godmother has good intentions, but she's a little bit of a bumbler, and she's a little bit of a schemer. I'm thrilled to be with this cast!"

Midler joins Ali Wong (BEEF), Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!), and Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once). Seyfried voices Cinderella, while Hsu and Wong play her stepsisters, Lilith and Margot. Netflix encourages fans to reconsider their views of the classic ne'er-do-well stepsisters, as one will ultimately team up with Cinderella to save the kingdom from evil henchmen and biker trolls.

"The story is, at its core, about two very different sisters - one who fits perfectly into this fairy tale kingdom and one who doesn't - realizing they're more alike than different," explains Steps director Alyce Tzue.

Midler's latest role comes on the heels of the exciting confirmation of Hocus Pocus 3, in which she'll star alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. Earlier this year, she delighted fans by reuniting with her Beaches co-star Barbara Hershey, and the two appeared together again at the No Kings rally in March.

There's still more to look forward to from Bette Midler, including a starring role in the Jonah Hill dramedy Cut Off and an appearance at the Rise Up, Sing Out concert in New York City this June. Steps is set to premiere on Netflix later this year.
