Janet Jackson Just Turned 60-and She's Still Defying Expectations
That's the way love goes.
On May 16, Janet Jackson rang in her 60th birthday in iconic fashion with a host of family and friends. The legendary singer shared a sneak peek of her birthday bash in an Instagram reel with the caption, "I'm so grateful for the outpouring of love today. You have all made my 60th so special. Every single post, tribute, and wish touches my heart. I thank God for every additional day of life and for putting each of you in it. Wishing you all returned blessings & I look forward to seeing you soon. I love you." Jackson then ended her endearing birthday post with a heart emoji and the initial "J."
Janet's big sister, La Toya Jackson, was seen among the partygoers on her Instagram account, while the birthday girl wore a comfortably sporty and stylish outfit. Her look was completed with a sash emblazoned with the word "Sixtylicious." The video captures many joyful moments, including Janet blowing out her birthday candles and receiving heartfelt toasts. According to EurWeb, Janet's older sister Rebbie was also in attendance, along with New Edition crooner Johnny Gill, renowned R&B/pop production duo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and Empire actress Tasha Smith.
In addition, the Poetic Justice actress received numerous birthday wishes under her Instagram post from famous friends such as Naomi Campbell, Kylie Minogue, and Snoop Dogg, as well as tributes from other celebrities, her older brother Jackie Jackson, and legions of fans
Even amidst the celebrations, Janet took the time to honor her late brother, Michael Jackson. She wrote, "If Michael were alive today, he'd probably be the first person to wish me a happy birthday. Even a week before my birthday, he'd already be planning the perfect gift just to see me smile. I miss him so much. Keep resting peacefully, brother."
Janet's milestone birthday comes shortly after her mother, Katherine Jackson, celebrated her 96th birthday on May 4, and during the box office success of Antoine Fuqua's Michael. The biographical drama depicts the early musical years of Michael Jackson through the 1980s and his historic Bad tour. Per Vanity Fair, Janet refused to have her likeness portrayed in Fuqua's movie. "She was asked, and she kindly declined, so you have to respect her wishes," said La Toya at the Michael red carpet premiere.
As for Janet's next moves, expect to hear about her upcoming adventures in Japan. She is preparing for her "Together Again" tour in Tokyo with TLC this June.
