VIDEO: Reporter Takes Cover as Gunshots Rang Out Near White House - What We Know So Far

Gunshots rang out outside the White House, sending one reporter ducking for cover.

Reporter Selina Wang was recording a social segment from the North Lawn of the White House on Saturday, May 23, when apparent gunshots rang out in the distance.

"Many gunshots were heard when we were at the White House. We were told to run into the press briefing room," the ABC News reporter shared via X after the terrifying incident.

Shortly after the incident, ABC News reported that the Secret Service had cleared the White House North Lawn.

According to reporter Steve Lookner, "Scanner traffic (from Broadcastify) reported a shooting at 17th St and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, which is on the corner near the White House."

As news of the incident began to spread, FBI Director Kash Patel took to X to share an update.

"FBI is on the scene and supporting Secret Service responding to shots fired near White House grounds - we will update the public as we're able," he wrote.

According to Fox News, at least one bystander was injured when Secret Service exchanged gunshots with a suspected gunman, Acyn tweeted.

From inside the briefing room, CNN clarified that the gunshots "appeared outside of the grounds, closer to the EEOB building, which is on the west side of the White House."
