1976 Legendary Rock Album Re-Enters the Billboard 200 Chart Over 50 Years Later
One of The Eagles' beloved "Greatest Hits" album has returned to the Billboard 200.
The Eagles' iconic 1976 compilation album Their Greatest Hits(1971-1975) re-entered the Billboard 200 this week, adding to its career total of over 500 total weeks spent on the albums chart.
According to the Billboard rankings dated the week of May 23, The Eagles landed in the No. 113 spot with their legendary album, Their Greatest Hits(1971-1975). The album frequently charts among the most popular albums, even over 50 years after it first came out.
The smash hit compilation album was first released in February 1976, and as promised in the title, it features 10 of the band's greatest hits, including "Take It Easy," "Desperado," "One of These Nights," "Take It To the Limit," "Lyin' Eyes," "The Best of My Love" and more.
In the first year of its release, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975) debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 4, before climbing to the No. 1 spot and staying there for five weeks. It is one of the band's longest-running No. 1 albums, following 1979's The Long Run (9 weeks) and 1976's Hotel California (8 weeks).
Earlier this year, the Eagles made history with Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975, which officially become the first album ever to receive quadruple diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), marking 40 million units sold in the United States.
In terms of U.S. sales and streams, Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 is the biggest album in RIAA history, and it's not the only Eagles record in the top 3. Their 1976 studio album Hotel California was upgraded to 28x-platinum in January 2026, making it the RIAA's third-biggest album ever, while the second place spot is held by Michael Jackson's Thriller.
