The BRIGANDINE ABYSS Demo Live On Steam Now, Ahead Of August Launch
The BRIGANDINE ABYSS demo is available right now on Steam, free to download ahead of the strategy RPG's August launch. NIS America and Happinet are letting players into two of the game's six story campaigns: the Gran Dragnica route and the Scarlet Will route. Two Campaigns in the Demo, Two Very Different Perspectives
The Gran Dragnica campaign centers on Largo, who is trying to uncover what's turning the world's dragons into pawns of evil. The Scarlet Will campaign puts you with Garnet's company as they refuse to back down against the rising Abyssloa Empire. The full game spans six complete story campaigns, each approaching the conflict from a different angle. The demo gives you the first two seasons of each.
One caveat, though. The demo save data does not carry over to the full game, so be mindful of the hours you sink into the demo. Get a feel of the gameplay, get yourself familiar with the officer characters, but don't get too attached.
BRIGANDINE ABYSS Gameplay
The game runs on a three-phase structure, which works somewhat like a Total War game if the battle is turn-based instead of an RTS. The Organization Phase is where you manage resources, assign officers and units to your territories, recruit monsters, and plan your next move. The Attack Phase lets you choose which armies you'll either move to a new territory or attack an enemy settlement in the game's node-based map. Then the Invasion Phase drops you into turn-based hexagonal grid battles, where you need to account for unit positioning, elemental attributes, and army composition to come out ahead.
The BRIGANDINE series is best known for its monster-binding mechanic, which lets you bind creatures to your officers and field them in battle. BRIGANDINE ABYSS is a brand-new entry set in a completely separate world, so even unfamiliar players can come in fresh.
Beyond the six-story campaigns, the full game includes Mission Mode, which puts you in control of one of 24 different factions, each with its own unique win conditions. There's no narrative thread to follow, giving you a sandbox mode with an open-ended challenge to bring a continent under your banner, and the faction variety gives it significant replay value. The demo doesn't include Mission Mode, although it's something players might want to consider when purchasing the game, as it adds a ton of replay value.
BRIGANDINE ABYSS Release Date and Limited Edition
The full game launches August 26 on Steam and August 27 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A Limited Edition is available to pre-order now for $89.99, which includes a copy of the game on Switch 2 or PS5, the Art from the Abyss artbook, and the Anthems of War soundtrack CD, among other items.
