Samuel Adams Unveils 'Patriotic' Beer Collection for America's 250th Anniversary
Samuel Adams has launched a new collection of beers to celebrate America's 250th Anniversary.
In the pack are four different beers, each of which are inspired by one of the founding fathers.
"A lot of these particular recipes for the Brewer Patriot Collection are actually historical recipes," Shelley Smith, who worked with Samuel Adams on this collection, told PEOPLE. "Some of them are even available in the New York Public Library, which is kind of wild."
There's the George Washington Porter, which has notes of toffee, cocoa and dates as well as molasses and licorice, in which Smith explains are ingredients and flavors you do not "find in a beer of today." Next is the James Madison Dark Wheat Ale, which features cocoa and toffee, along with smoked malted barley, and the name is inspired by the fourth U.S. President who "championed the establishment of a National Brewery and once suggested a 'Secretary of Beer' position for the cabinet."
Then there's the 1790 Hard Root Beer, which has notes of sassafras, wintergreen, and licorice as well as molasses, honey, and vanilla and is named "after the year hard root beers became a Colonial tavern staple," according to PEOPLE. And then lastly, it's the No. 3 Ginger Honey Ale, which is inspired by Thomas Jefferson and has notes of ginger, honey, and lemon peel.
Samuel Adams shared a photo of cans from the new collection on Instagram.
"The Brewer Patriot® Collection: a limited-edition four-pack with brews based on the original recipes from our Founding Fathers," the caption reads. "Raise a Sam" to the spirit of independence - past and present.
And fans are very excited to celebrate America's anniversary with this special lineup.
