Anthony Head's Cause of Death: What Happened to the 'Buffy' & 'Ted Lasso' Star?
Anthony Head, the British actor best known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Ted Lasso, is dead at 72, and fans are all wondering: What was his cause of death?
Let's take a closer look at the circumstances surrounding his sudden death, as well as another loss in the family months earlier, and two other Buffy deaths in the past couple of years.
On Friday, June 5, Head's daughters, Daisy and Emily, confirmed the news of their father's death with BBC News.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our extraordinary father," the bereaved family members shared. "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many."
Head's daughters also shared that they knew "how dearly he will be missed by friends, colleagues and fans of the show he was in", adding that he "loved his job very much" and "always considered himself incredibly lucky."
Anthony Head's Cause of Death: What Happened to Him?
An official cause of death for Head-who played Rupert Giles in Buffy and Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso-has not been announced, as of writing. However, Emily and Daisy did share what happened to their father in the end.
"He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," they said in their statement to BBC News.

Head's Partner Died Just Months Earlier
In late December, Head's partner since 1982, Sarah Fisher, died at 61, their daughters announced on Facebook.
"We are so sorry to have to share the news that our extraordinary, kind and talented mother, Sarah, passed away recently," Daisy and Emily revealed. "It is immensely shocking to us all, and came with very little warning."
They added, "No words could ever express all that she encompassed, or begin to describe the crater her absence has left. We know how profoundly she has impacted the lives of so many, and we couldn't be more proud of the legacy she is leaving behind. We only wish she'd had more time to share her knowledge and brilliance with us, and the world. Our grief knows no bounds, nor did the reaches of her incredibly unique and irreplaceable spirit."
Other Buffy the Vampire Slayer Actors Have Recently Died
Head's death marks the third time Buffy fans have mourned a cast member in the last year and a half. In March 2026, Nicholas Brendon, who played Xander Harris in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died at 54. And in February 2025, Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn Summers in the show, died at 39.
