James Handy's Girlfriend Breaks Her Silence Following Son's Arrest in Actor's Murder
James Handy, an actor who worked in numerous films and television shows across his career, died on Wednesday, June 3, after he was found unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to the chest. He was transported to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced dead.
Following his death, police officers arrested 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, who flagged down authorities and said he was the one they were looking for. Gledhill is also said to have made a "bizarre" 911 call where he told dispatchers, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin. He was booked for one count of murder, and his bail was set at $2,000,000.00.
Gledhill lived at the home with his mother, Wendy, who was Handy's girlfriend, and now she has broken her silence, speaking with The California Post outside her home on Friday, June 5.
"I'm just trying to make it through one day at a time, a minute at a time," she said. "I loved James and my son. I still can't believe it….I can't believe my son did it. I'm just trying to …,"
Wendy then spoke with TMZ, providing some insight into her son's mental health struggles. Specifically, she said that he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia in July 2025, but had stopped taking his medication roughly a week before Handy's murder. And while they "didn't always see eye to eye," Wendy described Handy and her son's relationship as "generally cordial."
"They know I loved him so much. I'm so sorry," she told the outlet. "I'm so sorry this happened. I'm still in shock. I still can't comprehend it."
Wendy was also asked by TMZ whether he son should spend the rest of his life in prison, and she responded by saying that he "should not be where he can hurt anyone else."
