Should You Pull For Sweep Tosho In Umamusume Pretty Derby?

With a little bit of charm and a quick magic spell, Sweep Tosho mystically appears and joins the roster of trainees in Umamusume! Starting June 4, this adorable witch-uma is featured in a limited-time scout banner, alongside a concurrent banner for SSR Taiki Shuttle support card. Let's take a look at Sweep Tosho's strengths, career performance, and her future meta relevance for Trackblazer and beyond.

Sweep Tosho Stats And Skills

Sweep Tosho is an End Closer primarily for Mile and Medium races, but can also run well in Long tracks if provided with at least 7 distance sparks. Her growth rates are 10% on Speed and 20% on Power, which is highly synergistic for many Trackblazer decks, including Speed-Power-Wit decks and Guts-stacking decks.

Unique SkillEffect

Victory Belongs to Me-Strelitzia! ☆

If positioned toward the back and racing calmly until the start of the final corner, when there are 300m remaining, cast a magic spell to increase velocity continuously.

Her unique skill is a homestretch speed skill that only triggers if she's unrushed and at the back half of the pack until the final corner. This skill is ideal for shorter races where the final corner starts at an earlier section, such as Yasuda Kinen or the recent Gemini Cup. This is because End Closers prefer to move up within the pack as early as possible with the use of mid-race skills such as Gold Ship's [Anchors Aweigh!] or the [Daring Strike] gold skill from SSR Mr. CB.

Potential SkillEffect

Intense Gaze

Slightly unnerve runners in focus late-race. (End Closer)

Go-Home Specialist

Reduce fatigue on a downhill. (End Closer)

Straightaway Spurt

Slightly increase acceleration on a straight in the last spurt. (End Closer)

Petrifying Gaze

Unnerve runners in focus late-race. (End Closer)

Sweep Tosho's potential skills indicate that she can reliably run as a hybrid Ace/debuffer thanks to a strong kit and access to [Straightaway Spurt] and [Petrifying Gaze]. Her built-in [Go-Home Specialist] also makes her viable for longer tracks, even though her other skills are less effective for those distances.

Innate SkillEffect

Trick (Rear)

Slightly increase fatigue for rushed runners ahead when positioned toward the back mid-race.

After-School Stroll

Slightly reduce fatigue on a downhill. (End Closer)

Take the Chance

If positioned toward the back late-race, slightly increase acceleration. (Medium)

Event SkillEffectNotes

Slipstream

Slightly decrease wind resistance when following directly behind another runner.

End Closer Corners ○

Slightly increase velocity on a corner. (End Closer)

Not available in Trackblazer (Secret Event)

Restraint

Increase Wit and moderately decrease the chance of being Rushed.

Should You Pull Analysis

Sweep Tosho

Strengths

  • Near-perfect growth rates
  • Strong hybrid build
  • Built-in [Straightaway Spurt]
  • Currently the only source of [Restraint]

Weaknesses

  • Unique skill condition is counter-productive
  • Lacks more mid-race skills
  • No innate access to [End Closer Savvy ○] for debuffing

Sweep Tosho is an End Closer with strong potential for competitive PvP but requires heavy investment to see consistent results from her. While she has excellent growth rates that let players achieve max Speed and Power with ease, her unique skill is prone to ‘whiffing' in regular lobbies.

The current ideal setup for End Closers is to move up within the pack during the mid-race, leading to a better position during the spurt and reducing the chance of getting blocked. However, if Sweep Tosho gets even just a tiny glimpse of the top 50% before the final corner, she doesn't get to trigger her unique skill anymore. For evenly distributed or backloaded lobbies, this essentially voids her unique skill for the race. She would need to rely on a few mid-race skills she has access to, which can be expensive if we include skills like [Daring Strike] and [It's On].

However, she can also run as a debuffer instead, with [Petrifying Gaze] effectively destroying her enemies' speed in the late race. This debuff is more effective in Mile races where runners are much closer together and can be enhanced with [End Closer Savvy ○] with its extra FoV effect.

Sweep Tosho is the first uma to have access to [Restraint], which is a green skill that increases Wit and reduces your ‘Rushed' chance by a flat amount. The Rushed chance reduction is extremely useful for strong unique skills that require being "un-rushed", notably Mejiro Dober's [Moving Past, And Beyond] and Cheerleader King Halo's [Louder! Tracen Cheer!]. The skill is unfortunately locked behind a secret event, making it inaccessible in Trackblazer; the only way to obtain it is through a legacy spark via URA Finale, Unity Cup, or other future career scenarios.

Rating

Sweep Tosho - 3.5/5

F2P Meta Value - Low-Moderate

Sweep Tosho is not easy to train, especially with her frequent tantrums and self-inflicted debuffs outside of Trackblazer. Regardless, her cute charm and passion for whimsical magic make her a fan favorite since her first appearance in the game.
