Knicks Radio Host Caught on Hot Mic Dismissing Taylor Swift at NBA Finals
There's a difference between having a take and having it broadcast nationwide by accident.
Monica McNutt, who serves as the lead radio analyst for the New York Knicks and is a studio analyst for MSG Network, found herself at the center of a fast-moving controversy Wednesday night after a hot-mic moment during Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals captured her dismissing Taylor Swift's presence at Madison Square Garden.
Swift, who attended the Knicks-Spurs matchup courtside alongside actress Mariska Hargitay and members of the Haim sisters, was shown on the jumbotron to a roaring crowd reaction. That's when McNutt, apparently unaware her microphone was live, could be heard saying 'Is that Taylor Swift down there? She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here girl.'

The clip, captured by a fan inside the arena and posted to social media, spread almost immediately. By Thursday morning, Barstool Sports had amplified the moment and Swifties had arrived in force across X and the comments sections that followed.
McNutt is a respected basketball voice with deep ties to New York as a Georgetown alum who has contributed to ESPN, Fox Sports 1, and CBS Sports Network in addition to her Knicks broadcasting work, and the comment was clearly not meant for public consumption. But the rapid spread of the clip reopened a conversation that has followed Swift (and many other high-profile personalities) through every major live sports event she's attended. Namely, whether her celebrity presence is seen as welcome, neutral, or an intrusion.

Swift has been a Knicks fixture this postseason, attending multiple playoff games through the Finals run. She showed up for Wednesday's Game 4 wearing a blue-and-orange shirt bearing the pun 'Stevie Knicks,' a detail fans celebrated widely as proof of genuine team spirit. The shirt and the full Knicks-fan presentation apparently didn't satisfy critics already convinced she didn't belong in the arena.
And though dismissing celebrities for publicly embracing a space or event is well-trod territory, Swifties responded as expected: loudly and at scale.
McNutt had not publicly addressed the clip as of Thursday morning.
Swift's attendance at Game 4 had a further connection beyond just Knicks enthusiasm. Madison Square Garden is the reported venue for her July 3 wedding to Travis Kelce, making her evening at MSG something of a preview of the arena where she's expected to say 'I do' in just over three weeks. Whether or not she's a Knicks fan by anyone else's definition, her relationship with that building is about to become considerably more personal.
