Pikuniku 2 Announced for Switch 2 and PC as the Absurd Adventure Returns in 3D

One of the most unexpected reveals from Nintendo Direct June 2026 was the return of Pikuniku. Seven years after the release of the original game, developer Sectordub and publisher Devolver Digital officially announced Pikuniku 2, a new adventure set to launch in 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. The sequel brings back Piku and his friends while introducing a new story, a larger world to explore, and a major visual change for the series.

The original Pikuniku earned a loyal following thanks to its colorful presentation, strange humor, and unusual cast of characters. Rather than moving away from those elements, the sequel appears determined to embrace them even further. Official descriptions describe Pikuniku 2 as an absurd puzzle exploration adventure where players will once again wander through a world filled with odd situations and eccentric personalities.

The adventure begins with an escaped sandwich and a boat wreck. The incident leaves Piku separated from his friends across an archipelago, prompting a journey to reunite the group and eventually find a way home. While that premise may sound unusual, it is only the beginning of a story that quickly becomes much stranger.

A New 3D Direction

While the original title used a two-dimensional presentation, the sequel expands the world into 3D environments. Official materials suggest that this change will allow players to explore the archipelago more freely while preserving the bright colors and minimalist art style that helped define the first game.

The developers have stated that players will use Piku's abilities to solve a variety of puzzles throughout the adventure. The focus appears to remain on playful and accessible challenges rather than highly demanding puzzle design. Exploration, conversations with unusual characters, and uncovering bizarre stories seem to be central parts of the experience.

With a release planned for 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC, fans still have some time to wait before they can once again step into Piku's peculiar world and discover why protecting a potato may be one of the most important missions of all.
