The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Announced for Switch 2 as Nintendo Revives a Legendary Adventure

Nintendo has officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, bringing one of the most celebrated games in the company's history to Nintendo Switch 2. Revealed during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct presentation, the project marks the return of Link's Nintendo 64 adventure nearly three decades after its original release. Nintendo has confirmed that the remake will launch in 2026 exclusively for Switch 2.

Although Nintendo has not yet shared extensive gameplay footage, the reveal trailer provided a look at the game's updated visual presentation. The footage revisits the beginning of Link's journey in Kokiri Forest, showing the young hero asleep before a glowing Triforce symbol appears on his hand. The trailer also features narration describing the boy who lived among the Kokiri despite not having a fairy of his own.

The original Ocarina of Time debuted on Nintendo 64 in 1998 and is widely regarded as one of the most influential video games ever created. It introduced many of the mechanics and design principles that would go on to define 3D action adventure games for years to come. Its lock-on targeting system, expansive world design, and cinematic storytelling helped establish a blueprint that countless developers would later follow.

A Landmark Release for Nintendo

Nintendo has not revealed a specific release date beyond 2026, nor has it provided information about gameplay changes, new content, or additional features. The company has simply stated that more information will be shared at a later date.

Even with limited information available, the announcement is significant because of Ocarina of Time's place in gaming history. The original adventure introduced players to Link's quest to stop Ganondorf and protect Hyrule, becoming one of Nintendo's most acclaimed releases in the process. Its influence can still be seen throughout modern entries in The Legend of Zelda series and the broader action adventure genre.

For Nintendo Switch 2 owners, the remake is already shaping up as one of the console's most anticipated upcoming exclusives. With a full visual overhaul and the promise of revisiting one of gaming's most beloved adventures, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake represents Nintendo's latest effort to introduce a legendary classic to a new generation of players.
