Kit Connor and Joe Locke Return in First ‘Heartstopper Forever' Trailer

Nick and Charlie’s love story faces its biggest challenge yet in the first trailer for “Heartstopper Forever.”

In the beloved Netflix series’ feature-length finale, the couple are forced to confront “the reality of a long-distance relationship” as Nick (Kit Connor) prepares for college and Charlie (Joe Locke) finds “new independence at school,” according to an official synopsis.

“Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet,” the description continues. “Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?”

The trailer - which is set to Olivia Rodrigo's new single, "Stupid Song" - begins with Charlie saying, “Everyone thinks teenage relationships don't last, guess I'm an optimist then.”

He tells to his friends that Nick “always thinks about the future,” adding, “It’s like he’s there in his mind already, trying to stop a mistake that hasn’t happened yet."

“I never used to think about the future at all,” he adds, to which his friends reply, “It’s because you were too busy surviving.”

As life away from Charlie looms, Nick grapples with self doubt and jealousy, confronting a guy at party and telling him, "You were just flirting with my boyfriend.”

He later asks Charlie, "Who even am I if you don't need me anymore?"

"I want you to be happy,” Charlie says and Nick responds, "I’m only happy when I’m with you."

“I don’t think that’s how it should be,” Charlie emotionally tells his boyfriend. “I need you to be okay without me."

The trailer concludes with the pair vowing to always be there for each other no matter where their lives take them.

“We look after each other, don’t we?” Charlie says, with Nick replying, “Always” as their fingers interlock.

In addition to Connor and Locke, William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Jenny Walser, Rhea Norwood, Leila Khan and Bradley Riches are set to return for the feature film, which is based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novels.

Fans flooded the comment section to share their excitement about seeing Charlie and Nick return to the screen.

“I felt a thousand emotions from a single trailer. It’s so beautiful,” one fan shared and another added, “I know one thing Charlie and Nick better stay together for my mental health!”

“Wow, hearing stupid song in the background felt so special to me. Olivia and ‘Heartstopper’ in one is so ICONIC, I can’t wait to watch this movie,” another comment read.

“Heartstopper Forever” premieres July 17 on Netflix.
