Geena Davis ‘Disappointed' by Netflix Cancelation

Geena Davis has admitted the cancelation of her first TV show in decades was devastating,

The 70-year-old actress appeared in Netflix's supernatural drama The Boroughs, which saw a retirement complex infiltrated by mysterious entities. The show only ran for one season.

On June 17, Netflix canceled the project, which was produced by The Duffer Brothers, who are the masterminds behind Stranger Things.

Geena told The Hollywood Reporterthat the show's cancellation was a shock, given it was featured in Netflix's Top 10 following its debut and was met with rave reviews from critics.

"Honestly, I don't know what happened," she told the outlet. "I think it's probably rare for a show to not get picked up and to have it announced that it's not being picked up while it's still in the top 10."

"Fortunately, the creators [Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews], who became our dear, dear friends, were able to tell us before the news came out, and we're all terribly disappointed," Davis continued. "We didn't expect that."

Although the show had mostly wrapped up the central story, the creators had envisaged multiple series of the streaming show. The show's closing moments hinted that not everything had been done with the story. "If we had made it as a limited series, then it would've been a big hit, and everybody would be happy," she said.

The miniseries also starred Alfe Woodward, Alfred Molina and Bill Pullman. Davis says that the saddest thing about the cancellation is not getting to work with the cast again.

"[The cast] so fell in love with each other that we just wanted to keep working together," she said. "I suggested that the creators write another series, a completely different story with the exact same actors and writers and crew, and we just do it again like an anthology series, right?" she recalled.

Currently, no other streamer has any plans of picking up The Boroughs.
