N&O presents 500 tickets for Kaleidoscope 2015 to Brentwood Elementary students
Eric Fitts, principal of Brentwood Magnet Elementary School, presided over the quarterly awards ceremony for 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday that included a surprise from The News & Observer.
Bob Hagh, The N&O’s multimedia manager, presented the students and staff of Brentwood Elementary with 500 tickets to Kaleiscope 2015. The event, on Saturday, Oct. 31, at City Market in downtown Raleigh, will feature non-stop performances and a daylong dance party with instructors teaching salsa, zumba, line dancing, hip hop, shag, stepping and more.
Fitts, who was recently named Wake County Principal of the Year, recognized students for academics, performance, most improved, and reading milestones in the first quarter. The tickets were awarded in appreciation for their hard work in school.
“We’re truly grateful for the generosity shown to us by The N&O and other sponsors of this event,” Fitts said after the assembly. “This shows all students and staff how their hard work and energy are being recognized by community stakeholders. We appreciate this gesture and look forward to a fantastic day of family fun and entertainment.”
Shaw University, one of the Kaleidoscope 2015 sponsors, made a similar gesture, rewarding more than a dozen Wake County high school teachers and their students with tickets to enjoy the entertainment showcase.
Kaleidoscope 2015 begins at noon and will include appearances by Razzmatazz, Invictus, Core Dynamics, The Gifted Arts, local college queens, Miss North Carolina, Miss Teen North Carolina, Muddy Mudcat and UNC’s Rameses mascot for selfies and autographs. The event also features two concerts by neo-soul vocalist Cynthia Jones, and the high-energy La Fiesta Latin Jazz Band. Details and ticket information are available at www.kscope2015.com.
