Triangle Brass Band

Holiday favorites will be the centerpiece Saturday when the Triangle Brass Band performs at Wake Forest Baptist Church.

The band – whose members include school band directors, college faculty, lawyers, computer programmers, engineers, medical personnel and general contractors – performs at 7 p.m. in the historic sanctuary of the church, 107 E. South St., Wake Forest.

Tony Granados is artistic director for the group.

‘A Christmas Carol’

Tickets are on sale for Allan Gurganus and Michael Malone’s annual benefit performances of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

Performances are on tap at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 18-19 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 210 S. Mary’s Road, Hillsborough.

Proceeds from ticket sales benefit the church and the Burwell School Historic Site in Hillsborough. Tickets are $15. They are available at the church and the historic site as well as at the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough, Hillsborough Wine Company and Purple Crow Bookstore in Hillsborough.

Photography exhibit

“Recent Finds: Never-Exhibited Photographs by David Simonton” is on view at The Framers Corner in Carrboro.

The Raleigh photographer has shot in more than 365 cities, towns and rural communities across North Carolina. See Simonton’s photos from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday through Dec. 31. The gallery is at 210 W. Main St., Carrboro.

2 exhibits at Artspace

Twenty-six artist and crafters from across the Southeast are showing their work in a juried exhibit at Artspace in Raleigh through Jan. 17.

Entries for “Fine Contemporary Craft of the Southeast” were judged by Stefanie Gerber Darr, gallery manager of Arrowmont School of the Arts in Tennessee. Darr selected with an eye for both tradition and pushing boundaries.

The craft exhibit is on view in Gallery One.

In Gallery Two, see “Threads of War,” guest-curated by Betsy Greer. It features the work of four international artists and activists, who use fiber and stitchery to promote peace. That exhibit runs through Jan. 31.

Artspace is at 201 E. Davie St. It is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and until 10 p.m. on First Fridays.

Artists’ reception

A reception is on tap Thursday for two Triangle-area artists whose work will be featured this month at the Clayton Center.

Heidi-Lee Peach of Clayton works in various media, including watercolor, photography and acrylic. Harry Vassilion of Raleigh works in acrylics.

Meet them from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday in the lobby of the center, 111 E. Second St., Clayton. Dress is casual and light refreshments will be served.

The exhibit runs through Jan. 5 and is free. The Clayton Center is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.

Kudos

Grant Llewellyn, music director of the N.C. Symphony since 2004, recently received the John Edwards Memorial Award, the most prestigious noncompetitive award given in Wales for service to the nation’s music. Llewellyn was born in South Wales. The award is bestowed by the Welsh Music Guild.

Art Walk in Chapel Hill



The centerpiece is a silent auction from noon-7 p.m. Thursday and again from noon-8 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Art Gallery, 1215 E. Franklin St. Second Friday Art Walk is from 6-9 p.m.
