What’s on: “Pippin”

The buzz: Most people now know Stephen Schwartz as composer and lyricist for “Wicked,” but one of his earliest long-run Broadway hit was “Pippin” (1972). This story of a young prince in the Middle Ages trying to figure out the meaning of life is presented as a fable put on by a troupe of performers.

About the tour: This is the Tony Award-winning 2013 Broadway revival version that adds jugglers, acrobats and aerialists to the flashy dancing and catchy songs, including “Morning Glow” and “Magic to Do.”

Watch for: Chet Walker’s eye-popping choreography that pays homage to Bob Fosse’s original in all its sensual, sultry movements; the dazzling costumes and lighting effects that add to the circus-like atmosphere.

Where to see it: Durham Performing Arts Center, 123 Vivian St.

When: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 8 p.m. Friday; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday; 1 and 6:30 p.m. May 17.

Tickets: $30-$135
