Why go: Israeli-born choreographer Zvi Gotheiner has created many critically acclaimed pieces for his company over the last two decades. He collaborates with his dancers to make works about community that also embrace diversity, melding old genres with new.
What’s on: Gothheiner’s 2012 “Dabke” is based on a Middle Eastern folk dance performed at weddings, holidays and celebrations. Gothheiner adds women to this traditionally male-only dance that includes rhythmic stomping in linked lines.

Ballet Folklórico Cutumba
Why go: The Cuban-based company of 48 dancers and musicians performs folk music and dance in vibrantly colored costumes and theatrically vivid production numbers.
What’s on: The program, “Roots and Cuban Tradition,” illustrates Cuba’s cultural melting pot of African, French and Haitian elements.

Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host
Why go: Ira Glass, host of the popular public radio program, “This American Life,” joins dancers Monica Bill Barnes & Anna Bass to combine two art forms that logically shouldn’t go together.
What’s on: The program includes radio interviews restaged as dance pieces, plus stories from the lives of the three performers about being an artist, falling in love and life’s constant changes.
