Durham’s Manbites Dog Theatre opens its season this weekend with Anne Washburn’s 2012 play, “Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play.” The dark comedy follows survivors of an apocalyptic event, who pass the time by recounting an episode from “The Simpsons.” Over time, the ritual expands into a musical to help them process the ruins of their culture.

7:30 p.m. Oct. 23-Nov. 7. $12-$20 (student/senior/military discounts available). 919-682-3343 or manbitesdogtheater.org.
