Could this ‘American Idol’ winner from NC be the Flamingo on ‘The Masked Singer’?
Just when we were getting used to the possibility of Chris Daughtry being the Rottweiler on Fox’s “The Masked Singer” show, fans started floating the idea that Fantasia Barrino could be the Flamingo — and our minds are just blown.
Two North Carolina singers (both “American Idol” alums) competing against each other on “The Masked Singer”?
Could it be?
Let’s look at the clues.

‘Masked Singer’ clues for Fantasia as Flamingo
“Masked Singer” judge Robin Thicke has guessed the Flamingo is Fantasia on a couple of shows, and guest judge Anthony Anderson agreed. Further, Vegas odds-making sites have been giving Fantasia excellent odds as the Flamingo.
Here are some of the clues that point to Fantasia as Flamingo.
▪ Flamingo mentioned in an early episode that she “danced, sung and acted my way to the top.”
Fantasia, a High Point native, got her start on the third season of “American Idol” — in fact, she won! Her albums have been hits (multiple Grammy nominations over the course of her career and one win, so far) and she won a Theatre World Award for her role as Celie in the Broadway musical “The Color Purple.” Getting first place on “Idol,” winning a Grammy and appearing on Broadway can all certainly be considered “the top.”
▪ Flamingo displayed an NAACP Image Award on stage with her after one “Masked Singer” performance, saying it’s a clue to her identity.
Fantasia has won three NAACP Image Awards.
▪ In one episode, Flamingo mentioned “living in a fantasy.”
It’s right there in the name!
▪ Flamingo’s voice is incredible. It’s why she’s considered a favorite to win the show.
It does sound like Fantasia, especially in the “Lady Marmalade” performance.
If not Fantasia, who else could Flamingo be?
As much as we like the pro-Fantasia clues, there are actually more arguments against Fantasia than for her.
For one, Flamingo has insisted she is not a professional singer and said at one point she used to hate the sound of her own voice. Fantasia is absolutely a professional singer.
Flamingo once alluded to having a multicultural background, showing photos of Paris and the Taj Mahal.
She has mentioned giving online beauty tips and said early in the show she was so nervous she was “shaking in my feathers.”
All of these clues seem to point to Adrienne Bailon Houghton.
Houghton is a former member of the group “The Cheetah Girls,” which had a song called “Shake a Tail Feather.” She has at times said she doesn’t like the sound of her voice.
Houghton has a YouTube channel where she gives online beauty tips, filmed a movie in India and was married by the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
She has also won an NAACP Image Award.
That’s a pretty strong case for Houghton, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
