WRAL names its new sports anchor and reporter
WRAL is filling the sports anchor / reporter slot left vacant by Jeff Gravley with 33-year-old WXII reporter Chris Lea.
Lea will join the WRAL sports team starting March 4.
The Triad native started at WXII in 2013 as a traffic reporter before taking on sports duties there. He is currently leading the WXII sports team.
Lea has also been a part-time on-air personality at 102 Jamz radio station and worked as a sports editorial assistant and writer for the Greensboro News & Record.
A news release from WRAL states that Lea will join the sports team “alongside Mary Dunleavy and Jared Fialko and work collaboratively with the wralsportsfan.com team with significant digital and social contributions.”
In a tweet posted on Jan. 3, Lea announced his new job and thanked WXII “for taking a chance on me and giving me a family and a chance to develop over the last 7 years.”
Lea graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a degree in communications studies in 2009. He is married with a two-year-old daughter.
In related news, Gravley announced on Monday that he has taken a position as director of content strategy for N.C. State Athletics. Gravley is a graduate of N.C. State and a native of Oxford, NC.
