What to Watch on Friday: True crime night means specials on Bundy and Broussard
20/20 (9 p.m., ABC) - ABC gets interviews with two women who loved (and were loved by) serial killer Ted Bundy: his longtime girlfriend Liz Kendall and her daughter, Molly Kendall. The two women give details about life (and home life) with Bundy in the early 1970s, during the time when he started killing. Reporter Amy Robach also speaks with Trish Wood, the director of the Amazon docuseries “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer,” which also features extensive insight from Liz and Molly Kendall. The report also looks at Bundy’s monstrous crimes and features footage from the ABC archives. Other interviews included: former FBI Special agent Bill Hagmaier, who interviewed Bundy on death row for over 200 hours; Ray Crew, one of the first Florida State University police officers to arrive at the Chi Omega crime scene; Ken Katsaris, former sheriff of Leon County, Florida, who helped connect Bundy to the Chi Omega murders; Kathleen McChesney, former Washington State detective who worked on the Bundy case; Robert Keppel, former detective who took Bundy’s detailed confession about the murder of Georgeann Hawkins; Larry Simpson, lead Florida prosecutor who put Bundy behind bars; John Henry Browne, one of Bundy’s defense attorneys; Kathy Kleiner, Karen Chandler and Cheryl Thomas, surviving Bundy victims; and Joe Berlinger, director of the film “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” starring Zac Efron.
Dateline NBC (9 p.m., NBC) - Dateline examines the case of murdered Texas mom Heidi Broussard — just days after the prime suspect (and Heidi’s close friend) Magen Fieramusca, was charged with capital murder in the case. The one-hour episode includes interviews with Broussard’s friends and family, as well as FBI special agent in charge Christopher Combs. The case made national headlines last December when Broussard was found murdered after she and her newborn, Margot, disappeared. Margot was found and reunited with her father. Fieramusca has not entered any plea for charges of capital murder, kidnapping and tampering with a corpse but her lawyers note that she remains innocent unless the state has proven the allegations beyond a reasonable doubt and they say that despite their continued requests, the government has yet to disclose any evidence against their client. Andrea Canning reports. You can watch a preview of tonight’s Dateline episode here.
