What to Watch on Monday: The most-watched science series in history returns

Cosmos: Possible Worlds (8 p.m., National Geographic) - This new series, hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, continues the legacy Ann Druyan began with Carl Sagan 40 years ago. The 13-episode season takes viewers to previously uncharted territories and turns complex themes of science and exploration into a mind-blowing adventure beyond the realms of the imagination. This continuation of the most-watched science franchise in TV history starts with two back-to-back episodes. The episodes integrate state-of-the-art VFX, stylized animation and dramatic reenactments to carry viewers deep into the future and through that hole in the curtain of reality. At 8 p.m., a visit to a 100,000-year-old laboratory to examine the story of the change in lifestyle that altered human existence and the life of the heretic who found God in the book of nature, which opened our way to the stars. At 9, explore the story of our ancestors who rose to a comparable challenge, as well as a long-term vision of our future on other worlds.

9-1-1 Lone Star (8 p.m., Fox) - In the two-hour season finale, a father and son get trapped in a cave during a spelunking excursion. Also, Owen helps T.K. reconcile the past, and Judd and Grace aid Judd’s aging father.

McMillions (10 p.m., HBO) - In the series finale, many defendants take plea deals and cooperate with the government, but George Chandler and a handful of others fight to prove their innocence. When “Uncle Jerry” Jacobson takes the stand, he discloses details about how he pulled off his scheme.

Temple (Spectrum) - This new Spectrum Originals crime drama involves a brilliant but haunted surgeon (played by Mark Strong) who sacrifices everything for love when he opens an illegal medical clinic in the network of tunnels beneath London’s Temple subway station.
