What to Watch Monday: New Lifetime movie on Lorena Bobbitt, ‘Gary Busey: Pet Judge’
I Was Lorena Bobbitt (8 p.m., Lifetime) - This new Lifetime original movie stars Dani Montalvo and Luke Humphrey as Lorena and John Bobbitt, the controversial couple who made national headlines when Lorena cut off the penis of her husband after years of abuse. The film follows Lorena’s account of the day leading up to that event. Lifetime will run a PSA for the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence featuring the actors and Lorena Bobbitt, as part of Lifetime’s public affairs campaign, Stop Violence Against Women. (As an aside, there is an excellent and eye-opening documentary about the case, “Lorena,” available on Amazon Prime.)
The Titan Games (8 p.m., NBC) - Season 2 premieres, hosted by Dwayne Johnson. A contestant in the East group, Joshua Porter, is an active duty soldier stationed at Fort Bragg and currently serves on a parachute recruiting team called The Black Daggers. William Sutton, a high school teacher and JV basketball coach from Trenton, NC, also competes this season.
Jeffrey Dahmer: Mind of a Monster (9 p.m., Investigation Discovery) - ID is showing nine true crime specials at 9 pm. for nine straight days, starting tonight with this serial killer known as the Milwaukee Cannibal. The series will include a look at the murder of UNC student Faith Hedgepeth in Chapel Hill, coming later this week. Other specials focus on cases involving Jeffrey Epstein, Heather Elvis, Brittany Murphy, Kyron Horman, Jennifer Dulos, the BTK Killer and Joe Exotic.
Barkskins (9 p.m., National Geographic) - This new limited series examines the mysterious massacre in the vast and unforgiving wilds of 1690s New France that threatens to throw the region into all-out war. The series is created by Elwood Reid and based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Annie Proulx. It stars David Thewlis, Aneurin Barnard, Zahn McClarnon and Marcia Gay Harden. We get back-to-back new episodes tonight (it’ll show up on Hulu tomorrow).
Eating Up Easter (10 p.m., PBS / UNC-TV) - This Independent Lens documentary intertwines the authentic history of Easter Island with the stories of four islanders, creating a moving portrait of a society striving to keep step with the rest of the world while maintaining its own unique identity. The documentary is by native Rapanui filmmaker Sergio Mata’u Rapu.
Gary Busey: Pet Judge (Amazon Prime) - This new series (this is not a joke) has actor Gary Busey serving as a “Judge Judy”-style judge who decides on disputes between pet owners. This is either going to be ridiculous or amazing. Or … probably both.
