What to Watch Wednesday: New blue collar competition on CBS, ‘Stateless’ on Netflix
Tough As Nails (8 p.m., CBS) - This new reality competition show features people who work in “blue collar” jobs like construction and agriculture — or as host Phil Keoghan (“The Amazing Race”) says, people who make “an honest day’s living.” Take that, people who work in hospitals and schools and grocery stores! There are 12 contestants, a mix of men and women, and they compete in tasks such as bricklaying and laying railroad tracks. Those eliminated each week remain with their team till the end, but they are not eligible for the grand prize: $200,000 and a new Ford truck. We get two new back-to-back episodes tonight.
Stateless (Netflix) - A new dramatic series about four strangers whose lives collide at an immigration detention center in the middle of the Australian desert: an airline hostess on the run from a dangerous cult, an Afghan refugee and his family fleeing persecution, a young father escaping a dead-end job and a bureaucrat running out of time to contain a national scandal. It stars Yvonne Strahovski, Jai Courtney, Asher Keddie, Fayssal Bazzi, Marta Dusseldorp, Dominic West and Cate Blanchett.
