The Slow Hustle (8 p.m., HBO) - This feature documentary directed by Sonja Sohn chronicles the still unsolved death of Baltimore police detective Sean Suiter, fatally shot in the head in 2017 while in the line of duty, and explores the ongoing speculation about what really happened that day. With candid interviews from members of the Baltimore P.D., Suiter’s widow and children, journalists committed to uncovering the truth, lawyers and political leaders, the documentary examines the continuing mystery surrounding Suiter’s death and the multiple theories that emerge in the investigation of the case, including that Suiter’s death was a calculated murder hit or a suicide. Ultimately, the journey reveals how the culture of corruption within the ranks of the Baltimore police force contributed to the destruction of the public’s trust and impacted the police department’s ability to solve a shooting death of one of its own.

Live in Front of a Studio Audience: The Fact of Life / Diff’rent Strokes (8 p.m., ABC) - The cast for this — holy moley. For the live reenactments of classic episodes from these 1980s sitcoms, we get John Lithgow as Mr. Drummond, Kevin Hart as Arnold, Damon Wayans as Willis and Ann Dowd as Mrs. Garrett in “Diff’rent Strokes.” For “The Facts of Life,” Jennifer Aniston plays Blair, Gabrielle Union plays Tootie, Allison Tolman plays Natalie and Kathryn Hahn is Jo. Ann Dowd pulls double duty as Mrs. Garrett in this one too.

People’s Choice Awards (9 p.m., NBC) - Kenan Thompson hosts an awards ceremony honoring fan favorites in the worlds of music, TV, movies and pop culture; viewers worldwide make their selections from across 40 categories.

Abbott Elementary (9:30 p.m., ABC) - ABC also has a new show premiering tonight — a workplace comedy following a group of dedicated, passionate teachers and a slightly tone-deaf principal as they navigate the Philadelphia public school system. Despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life, and though these incredible public servants may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do — even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.

New Christmas movie tonight on Lifetime

Christmas Movie Magic (8 p.m., Lifetime) - In this new Lifetime Christmas movie, sparks fly between an entertainment writer and a small-town theater owner as they work together to unravel the mysterious origins of a classic Christmas movie song.
