What to Watch Thursday: A new documentary series on SC’s Murdaugh murders
Here’s what’s on TV tonight.
‘Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty’ (HBO MAX)
The new true-crime documentary series on the Murdaugh murders in South Carolina hits HBO Max today, with all three episodes available to stream immediately.
At the center of the story, for those aren’t familiar, are the murders of Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and her son, Paul, 22. The two were found shot to death at the family’s hunting lodge in Colleton County in July of last year. Alex Murdaugh, a prominent Hampton County attorney, called 911 pleading for help, saying he had just found the lifeless bodies of his wife and son. A little over a year later, Murdaugh was charged with murdering them both.
But the story is way, way more complicated than that, with twists and turns that never seem to stop.
The HBO series does an excellent job of laying it all out, with impressive access to people close to the case — including victims, family members of victims, journalists, attorneys and local residents.
There’s much more detail about the series in my piece HBO’s ‘Low Country’ documentary on SC’s Murdaugh murders: What to expect, how to watch.
