JB Smoove takes CBS ‘Renovation’ show to his NC hometown for a big family surprise
North Carolina native JB Smoove, an Emmy-winning actor and comedian perhaps best known for his work on the HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” returns home this week to help give a special gift to his family.
Smoove took part in the CBS series “Secret Celebrity Renovation,” which gives surprise renovations to meaningful people in the lives of famous sports and entertainment figures. For Smoove, being on the show meant a chance to spruce up his grandmother’s home — his childhood home in Plymouth, N.C. — to give his family a gathering place for future celebrations.
According to CBS, the show’s contractor, Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano (you know him from “Survivor”) and the interior designer Sabrina Soto, checked out the house to see what needed to be done, and found serious deterioration. With the home beyond repair, the group turns to an option that’s a first for the series.
In an exclusive clip from CBS, Smoove assists Soto in hanging curtains while joking about a mob-themed idea for a curtain company.
Another Smoove family-TV connection currently happening is on the ABC series “Claim to Fame,” which puts relatives of celebrities in a house and they have to figure out who everyone is related to. One of the contestants, Monay, is still on the show (as of this posting) and appears to be Smoove’s daughter.
How to watch ‘Secret Celebrity Renovation’
The show airs at 8 p.m. Friday (Aug. 11) on CBS and streams on Paramount+.
