What to Watch on Friday: Dateline season starts with story of high-profile Texas murder

Dateline: Losing Faith (9 p.m., NBC)
“Dateline” officially starts its 32nd season with a two-hour show on a high-profile murder in Dallas. Correspondent Josh Mankiewicz reports on the fatal shooting of American Airlines manager Jamie Faith in October 2020. Jamie was shot dead in front of his home as he and his wife, Jennifer, walked their dog, Maggie.
The episode features an exclusive interview with Darrin Lopez, the retired Army Special Forces Medic who was convicted of the murder. In the interview, Lopez talks about his relationship with Jennifer Faith and says he was manipulated by her false allegations of Jamie’s abuse. The episode will give updates on how the case and charges have been resolved.
Also interviewed: homicide detective Chris Walton, detective Eric Barnes, federal prosecutor Rick Calvert, reporter Cyrus Cezar AKA ‘Smash Da Topic,’ Darrin’s attorney Juan Sanchez, friends and family members, and others.

▪ A new Netflix four-part series called “Encounters” landed on Wednesday, presenting four true stories of “otherworldly phenomena.” Stories include encounters in Texas, a Welsh village, Zimbabwe and Japan. The stories are “told from the perspective of firsthand experiencers – in the places where the sightings occurred – and guided by cutting-edge scientists and military personnel, the series goes beyond the science to highlight the profoundly human impact of these encounters on lives, families, and communities.”
▪ The Hulu series “The Kardashians” returned for Season 4 on Thursday, opening with an episode in which the family goes on vacation to Cabo San Lucas and Kourtney and Kim get into a big fight.
