New movies and TV shows were filmed in NC in 2024. Here’s how you can watch them
The Carolinas are taking center stage as a backdrop for several new movies and television shows.
From “Bull Durham” and “Talladega Nights” to “The Color Purple” and “The Hunger Games,” North Carolina has been in the spotlight for several classics on the big screen — along with a few new productions that’ll be releasing soon.
From the capital to the coast, here’s a list of movies and television shows that were filmed across North Carolina this year and how to watch them:
‘Battle on the Beach’
Filming location: Oak Island
Starring: Ty Pennington, Alison Victoria and Taniya Nayak
Synopsis: “Ty Pennington, Alison Victoria and Taniya Nayak will mentor three skilled teams in a seaside home improvement clash.”
How to watch: The HGTV series can be streamed online at HGTV.com, MAX and Prime Video.
‘The Hunting Wives’
Filming location: Charlotte
Starring: Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow and Dermot Mulroney
Synopsis: “Sophie O’Neil moves to deep East Texas, and she succumbs to socialite Margo’s charms. Her life is soon consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.”
How to watch: A release date for the new television series has yet to be announced by Starz.
‘Merv’
Filming location: Wilmington
Starring: Zooey Deschanel, Joey Slotnick and Patricia Heaton
Synopsis: “A contemporary comedy about ex-couple Russ and Anna, who discover that Merv — the dog they share custody of — has become depressed due to their breaking up. Attempting to lift Merv’s spirits at Christmas, Russ takes him on a “boys’ trip,” leaving freezing Minnesota for a dog-friendly beach in sunny Florida. Anna unexpectedly shows up, rekindling romantic feelings.”
How to watch: A release date for the new film has yet to be released.
‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ (Season 3)
Filming location: Wilmington, Triangle area
Starring: Lola Tung, Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno
Synopsis: “A love triangle between one girl and two brothers. A story about first love, first heartbreak, and the magic of that one perfect summer.”
How to watch: The newest season of the television series will be released on Prime Video in the summer of 2025 with 11 episodes, according to Amazon.
