This famous — and adorable — NC kid guest-starred on ‘Abbott Elementary’ this week
One of North Carolina’s rising rap stars — and arguably the most adorable — is in the spotlight after a guest appearance in “Abbott Elementary.”
Six-year-old Savannah McConneaughey, also known as the famous “hip hop princess” Van Van, traded in her freestyles for jokes in the hit sitcom.
Spoiler alert: In the Feb. 26 episode, the Salisbury kindergartner portrayed a student in Mrs. Barbara Howard’s class named Margaret.
With her bubbly personality, she brought all the giggles as she dressed up as Sheryl Lee Ralph’s character for the 100th day of school — complete with shiny pearls, floral print, a pink cardigan and a wig.
Who is the rapper Van Van?
Though we all saw McConneaughey in the spotlight showing off her acting skills, she’s more notably known for her musical talents — which started on social media when she was just 3 years old.
“Teaming up with her dad, who doubles as her hype man, they crafted her debut hit, ‘Playing Outside Everyday.’ The overwhelming positive response fueled her creativity, leading to the creation of her second single, ‘Pull Out the Keys,’” her website says.
It wasn’t long before she really dove into the rap scene and “graced both intimate venues and prestigious stages, including the iconic Kennedy Honors” on top of crafting a full album. She was even a nominee for the 2024 BET awards’ YoungStars award and has appeared on several talk shows, most recently The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Though she’s only six, her appearance on Abbott Elementary was a dream years in the making. In a 2023 interview with BET, her father specifically mentioned how she wanted to be on the show.
She has more than 886,000 followers on Instagram and almost 240,000 on TikTok.
