When is the new season of ‘Outer Banks?’

Season five of “Outer Banks” is set to premiere Thursday, Aug. 20. The series will be available to watch on Netflix, though the streaming service in its blog posts didn’t share whether all 10 episodes will be released at once.

“We hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago,” creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke wrote on Instagram in 2024. “Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet. We hope you’ll join us for one more paddle out to the surf break.”

Is ‘Outer Banks’ filmed in NC?

Parts of the new season were filmed abroad and in Charleston, South Carolina, according to Elle magazine and Guy Gaster, director of the N.C. Film Office.

“At one point they were working with the ferry system to do one scene for one episode, but (I) don’t know if that scene remains part of the show or not,” Gaster told The N&O in a Thursday, July 9 email.

Much of the show is set in Kildare Island, a fictional town on the real-life Outer Banks barrier islands of North Carolina. Though previous filming locations have included the state’s Kure Beach and Copperhead Ranch, the streaming service said production for the series mainly has been based in South Carolina.

The News & Observer has asked Netflix about potential North Carolina filming locations featured in season five and is awaiting a response.
