Happiness is a Warm TV

WTVD reporter leaving for ‘new adventure’ in D.C.

WTVD-ABC11 reporter Angelica Alvarez is leaving after five years at the station.

Her last scheduled day at WTVD is Dec. 29.

Alvarez said in an email that she is leaving to join her husband, Adolfo Ibarra, a former ABC11 photographer who recently got a job with CNN in Washington, D.C.

“I had planned to stay in the area longer but when life happens, you just go with it,” she said.

Alvarez and Ibarra were married in Raleigh this past January.

“We are still newlyweds so we think six months of long distance is more than enough, so I’m taking the leap and moving to Washington D.C. to join him,” Alvarez said. “I hope to continue my career in news and look forward to this new adventure.”

Alvarez said she has enjoyed living and working in the Triangle, and that the area had started to feel like home.

“I’m thankful for all the people I’ve met along the way, the friendships I’ve made and the opportunities both professional and personal,” she said. “So it will be bittersweet leaving my ABC11 family.”
