What to Watch on Sunday: Docs on Atlanta child murders and the West Memphis Three
Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children (8 p.m., HBO) - This 5 part documentary series looks at the abduction and murder of at least 30 African American children and young adults in Atlanta between 1979 and 1981. Forty years later, with the official reopening of the case by Atlanta’s mayor, this series tells the story of the shocking tragedy and sheds new light on the killings through interviews with those closest to the children and the investigation. The series starts with the initial disappearances and builds to the prosecution of Wayne Williams, who was never formally charged with the murders of the children, only the young men. Was his conviction merely a rush to shut down the case? Many in Atlanta doubt Williams’ guilt to this day.
ACM: Our Country (8 p.m., CBS) - Gayle King hosts a two-hour special conversations and at-home acoustic performances with country music’s biggest stars. Look for performances by Brandi Carlile, Luke Bryan, Kane Brown & John Legend, Kelsea Ballerini, Eric Church, Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley & Darius Rucker, Blake Shelton & Gwen Stefani, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and more. The special will also honor Kenny Rogers, who passed away in March.
The West Memphis Three: An ID Murder Mystery (9 p.m., Investigation Discovery) - ID looks at the murder of three young boys in Arkansas in 1993 and the subsequent conviction of three “goth” teens, later nicknamed West Memphis Three. The conviction was based on flimsy evidence and the teens were eventually released from prison. If they didn’t do it, who did? A digital series called The West Memphis Three: The Missing Pieces will release online immediately after this airs.
Secrets of the Zoo (9 p.m., Nat Geo Wild) - The Columbus Zoo maybe closed but you can still get your animal fix here.
The Walking Dead (9 p.m., AMC) - In the Season 10 finale, the communities prepare for the final battle of the Whisperer War.
