What to Watch Sunday: Durham native performing from home for ‘American Idol’ Top 20
American Idol (8 p.m., ABC) - The Top 20 perform for America’s votes, but of course, these shows can’t be live. The singers will all perform remotely — from home — in an effort to win a spot in the Top 10. Judges will also appear remotely, as will the host (Ryan Seacrest) and mentor (Bobby Bones). In the Top 20 is Franklin Boone, a 27-year-old music teacher and Durham native who is a strong contender. From Franklin’s Instagram account, it sounds like he’s “bunkered up” at his brother’s home in Hillsborough right now, so that sounds like where he’ll perform from on the show. God Friended Me (8 p.m., CBS) - Two new episodes end the season tonight. In the 9 p.m. finale, Miles is forced to examine his lack of faith more than ever when the God account sends him his sister, Ali, as a friend suggestion on the eve of her cancer surgery.
Homeland (9 p.m., Showtime) - “Homeland” ends tonight, and, sigh, Carrie will be faced with a horrible dilemma: will she have to kill Saul to prevent World War III?
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels (10 p.m., Showtime) - This new series is described as the “spiritual descendant” of the Showtime series “Penny Dreadful,” and opens in 1938 Los Angeles with a grisly murder that embroils two detectives (Nathan Lane, Daniel Zovatto) in an epic story story that reflects the rich history of the city. The series is a mix of the supernatural and period realism.
