After nine years at WRAL, reporter ‘leaving the TV business’

WRAL reporter Mandy Mitchell has announced her departure from the station after nine years there.

Mitchell, who made the announcement on Twitter, said she is leaving the TV news business to “start a new journey.”

Thursday is her last day with the station, she said in her statement: “Today is my last day at WRAL. I am leaving the TV business to start a new journey. Thank you so much for watching and for letting me tell your stories over the past 9 years. It’s been a privilege!”

Mitchell came to WRAL in 2011 as a sports reporter and anchor. She previously worked at WIS-TV in Columbia, S.C., and at WPDE-TV in Myrtle Beach.

Mitchell, a University of Florida graduate, won an Edward R. Murrow award for sports reporting in 2014 and an Emmy Award in 2015.
